Maine Gallery
I spent a few days visiting friends in Maine who live near Portland. A chance to get a glimpse of some of the spectacular Maine coast scenery was the highlight of my visit. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse was built in the early 1800’s and sets off a stunning backdrop against the rugged coastline on the tip of Pemaquid Point. The short drive to Popham Beach State Park was also a treat. The coastline was magnificent.

With apologies to my vegetarian friends, lobster was my only food group during my short visit. Shaw’s Fish and Lobster Wharf was one of my favorite lobster stops. Shaw’s is actually a working waterfront and wharf in the town of New Harbor – just up the road from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Red’s Eats is right on the Sheepscot River in the town of Wiscasset – Red’s has one of the best lobster rolls in all of Maine. Not to be left off the list, I had a delectable lobster bisque at The Broad Arrow Tavern at The Harraseeket Inn, and two fabulous lobster dinners at The Muddy Rudder and Taste of Maine in Woolwich. For those who want to prepare their own crustaceans, there is a little place off of Route 1 called Day’s Lobster Pound – you can hand select your dinner.
